Turn the page to complete each image through the transparency of paper!

This novelty book twists the principle of the wordbook. On each page, a first black line drawing, often abstract, appears alone on the page. When the reader lifts the page to turn it, they discover the shadow of another black line shape printed on the back, which magically completes the shape printed on the front, giving it the meaning and appearance of a familiar object. A handle finds its blade to become a knife; glasses find their frames; four walls find their roof... The texts, in the form of funny and poetic statements, are grouped together and restore integrity to the separate images: “Without you, I am nothing,” says the wine to the glass; the paddle to the canoe; the envelope to the stamp...

A graduate from the Ecole supérieure des arts décoratifs from Strasbourg, Guillaume Chauchat draws for the press (Le Monde, Libération, The New York Times…) and for publishing. He has published comic books at 2024 (Il se passe des choses) and children’s books at Biscoto (Un lisou), Albin Michel Jeunesse (Les collectionneurs, Je me suis caché) and La Partie (La Flaque d’eau bleue).

Manuel Zenner

A graduate from the Werkplaats Typografie (The Netherlands), Manuel Zenner lives and works in Strasbourg. As a multidisciplinary artists, he explores the book as an object, graphic design, drawing of signs, installations and sound. Since 2011, he has been committed to publishing projects and working with authors and artists on matters of layout and typography.
